Dikiş ipliği seçimi; dikiş işleminin gerektirdiklerine, dikişin üzerine gelecek yük miktarına ve dikilmekte olan kumaşın tipine ve ağırlığına göre yapılır. İstenen son ürün kalitesine göre alternatif dikiş iplikleri kullanılabilir. İğne numarası, dikiş ipliği numarasına göre belirlenir.
