Coats Phong Phu has won the People Empowerment category at the sixth Vietnam Supply Chain Awards.  Coats Phong Phu, the Vietnam business of Coats plc, the world’s leading industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, was recognised at the recent annual awards ceremony of the Vietnam Supply Chain, the national association for supply chain professionals.  The awards held in Ho Chi Minh City and attended by over 300 business leaders, honours the best practice of businesses and individuals in the supply chain industry in Vietnam.

Coats Phong Phu won the award due to its reputation as an inspirational company for which to work and its committed people.  The judges recognised its people strategy as being built around ‘care, trust, innovation and long term success’.  It listens to and implements staff ideas and has increased its employee engagement level from 57% in 2010 to 80% in 2013.  It has a culture of continuous improvement with 96 Kaizen projects and 47 individual Lean Six Sigma certifications this year.  The company also recently celebrated 25 years of operating in Vietnam through its highly successful joint venture with Phong Phu Corporation

Bill Watson, Managing Director, Coats Vietnam, said: ‘We are extremely proud to have won this award which is testimony to the talent and dedication of our people who have contributed to the success of our business.  One of the three goals of our business is positive teamwork which is what people empowerment is all about.’

The awards are open to companies across all industry sectors.  Vietnam Supply Chain invites leaders from the supply chain industry in Vietnam as well as throughout Asia to judge the nominations.  Criteria includes the nature and complexity of the operations, value generated and the level of internal and external communication.

This award builds on previous industry recognition of Coats Vietnam.  Tram Anh, Supply Chain Director was awarded Supply Chain Professional of the Year at last year’s awards.  Earlier this year, Quyen Le, HR Director was awarded ‘Human Resources Professional of the Year’ by Towers Watson, a leading global professional services agency.
