Nightwear

We offer a variety of sewing threads which enhance the softness of nightwear and other close-to-skin garments.

Approximate thread consumption for ladies pyjamas is 140 metres, night-dresses 100 metres, dressing gowns 220 metres and house coats 185 metres.  Your thread size will determine the size of the needle needed for sewing. To fit the demands of the final quality required, alternative thread types may be used.

Where two Tex sizes of thread have been suggested the choice will be determined by the fabric weight, the construction of the load bearing seams and the stitch definition required (topstitching).

The sewing thread recommendations laid out above are intended as a guide to aid the construction of garments with good quality seams. As garments of the same generic type differ in terms of fabric substrate and construction, and both making up methods and post make up processing can greatly vary, these recommendations should be viewed as a good starting point for thread selection.

Coverseaming on ladies/girls sleepwear may involve the following stitch types:

    • 406 - Twin needle coverseam
    • 407 - Three needle coverseam
    • 602 - Twin needle coverseam with a top covering thread
    • 605 - Three needle coverseam with a top covering thread
    • 607 - Flatseam, Four needle coverseam with a top covering thread

The recommendations in the table apply to all of these stitch types. The choice of which thread to use for top cover is determined by the appearance required. Popular top covering threads include; Gramax, Epic and Sylko.

For the overlock loopers it may be possible to use Epic Tex 18 or Gramax Tex 18. Both of these threads will offer finer seams than the threads in the table above.
