Intimates and underwear - Girdles
We offer fine threads for girdles which are high in tenacity and have high seam strength while appearing discrete in the seam. Approximate thread consumption is 35 metres.
Depending on the required final quality, alternative thread types may be used. Thread size will determine needle size.

Where two Tex sizes of thread have been suggested the choice will be determined by:
- The demands of the stitching operation
- The amount of load / demand placed on the seam
- The stitch definition required (topstitching)
- Whether the seam contains support materials such as "under wires"
When manufacturing structured / support garments it is vital the stitch rating recommendations are observed. Whilst it may be desirable to construct these garments in such a way as to make them appear delicate, the thread selection should not be so fine as to compromise the seam strength or elongation.
In order to avoid damage to the fabric during the sewing of knitted underwear, ball point needles are generally recommended.
The sewing thread recommendations laid out above are intended as a guide to aid the construction of garments with good quality seams. As garments of the same generic type differ in terms of fabric substrate and construction, and both making up methods and post make up processing can greatly vary, these recommendations should be viewed as a good starting point for thread selection.
