Body shapers

The fabrics, laces and trims used in the production of body shapers demand sewing threads that are high in tenacity, offer controlled, predictable elongation, seam softness and which are discreet in the seam.

Generally, 100 metres of thread is required for producing a body shaper. Depending on the required final quality, other thread types may be used. Thread size will determine needle size.

We offer a variety of threads for body shapers. For more information, check out our recommendations below.

    Disclaimer

Where two Tex sizes of thread have been suggested the choice will be determined by:

    • The demands of the stitching operation
    • The amount of load / demand placed on the seam
    • The stitch definition required (topstitching)
    • Whether the seam contains support materials

When manufacturing structured garments, it is vital the stitch rating recommendations are observed. Whilst it may be desirable to construct these garments in such a way as to make them appear delicate, the thread selection should not be so fine as to compromise the seam strength or elongation.

In order to avoid damage to the seams during the sewing of knitted fabric, ball point needles are generally recommended.

The sewing thread recommendations laid out above are intended as a guide to aid the construction of garments with good quality seams. As garments of the same generic type differ in terms of fabric substrate and construction, and both making up methods and post make up processing can greatly vary, these recommendations should be viewed as a good starting point for thread selection.
