Coats and interlinings specialist Permess announce strategic alliance

  • 17 Jul 2017

Coats, the world’s leading industrial thread manufacturer, has entered into a strategic alliance with Permess, a supplier of high quality interlinings, to provide a comprehensive co-branded range of interlinings to all segments of the garment industry.  Interlinings form a key part of apparel manufacturing.  They are used to enhance, reinforce and shape the structure of the garment and are generally held in place by sewing or fusing.

The announcement follows an informal partnership, of over one year, which has made progress in South and South East Asian markets and will now start to be expanded to other regions of the world.  The sales, distribution and technical service capability, which Coats has in markets across the world combined with the interlinings manufacturing spread, expertise and technology of Permess, creates a fast sampling and delivery service with swift responses and local market presence.

Rajiv Sharma, Group Chief Executive, Coats, said: ‘The alliance with Permess is a step forward in our journey to be a value added partner to the apparel industry.  Coats Permess interlinings becomes part of Coats´ global trims offer that complements our comprehensive range of high quality threads, yarns and zips, providing a convenient and reputable source for all component needs.’

To help cater for the dynamic sampling and technical service requirements of customers, Coats has opened design studios for Coats Permess interlinings in India and Vietnam.  Further studios in other markets will open soon.  Coats Permess design studios are fully equipped with state of the art sewing, fusing, washing and testing facilities to provide all the required technical and backend support for garment manufacturers and brands.  With the brand new facilities and trained people in place, Coats will be able to provide quick sampling and technical support to customers.

Evert Jan Berenpas, Managing Director, Permess International, said: ‘Permess has invested heavily in new products, production technology, capacity and logistics both in Europe and Asia.  Now we are ready to expand our global service network and improve the availability of our high quality interlinings.  The global network of Coats with professional teams of dedicated managers is a perfect fit for our growth ambitions.'
