Ladieswear - Cardigans

We offer various sewing threads which have high seam strength and elongation, and offer comfort for knitted cardigans.

Polyester corespun thread is recommended for knitted cardigan production; but polyester/cotton thread can be substituted when luster is not required.

On overlock, chainstitch and coverseaming operations, the under thread may be substituted for Gramax, if a greater degree of seam covering is required.

Approximate thread consumption is 80 meters. Alternative thread types may be used depending on required final quality. The thread size will determine the choice of needle size.

    Disclaimer

On overlock, chainstitch and coverseaming operations, the under thread may be substituted for Gramax, if a greater degree of seam covering is required.

The sewing thread recommendations laid out above are intended as a guide to aid the construction of garments with good quality seams. As garments of the same generic type differ in terms of fabric substrate and construction, and both making up methods and post make up processing can greatly vary, these recommendations should be viewed as a good starting point for thread selection.

Knitwear can be divided into two distinct sections:

    • Fully fashioned, which mainly uses the same yarns for making as the fabric is constructed from and therefore, relatively little sewing thread.
    • Cut and sew, to which the table refers

Coverseaming on Cut & Sew Knitwear may involve the following stitch types:

    • 406 - Twin needle coverseam
    • 407 - Three needle coverseam

They are generally only used for attaching scarfs to cardigans. The recommendations in the table above apply to both of these stitch types.

Sometimes, on wool or cotton garments, there is a requirement for the sewing thread used in the making up of Cut & Sew knitwear to be done with a sewing thread that does not have the luster of Epic polyester corespun.

Where this is the case Dual Duty polyester / cotton sewing thread can be substituted for Epic in the corresponding Tex sizes.
