Coats prides itself on being part of the communities in which we operate, developing close relationships with local people, business partners and community groups.

Coats Crafts brand Rowan launched premium ‘Fine Art’ sock yarn, manufactured in South Africa using a hand painting method carried out by women employed from some of the poorest and most marginalised sections of the local community who are given personal responsibility in a job that creates an opportunity for genuine improvement in their lives, which Coats Crafts is proud to support.

Sourced from Cape Mohair Spinners in Port Elizabeth, where 70% of the world’s Angora goat herd farming takes place, each hank - enough to knit a pair of socks, is painted by the team at Ines Khoury’s hand painting department.

As a result of Rowan’s interest in the yarn, the increase in production has meant the company has had to relocate to larger premises and take on additional members of staff.

Coats is proud to be part of the fabric of local communities around the world and create employment opportunities for those that need them most.
