Thread dyeing and finishing mill set up in Dalian, China

Singapore sales office opened

Thread manufacturing commenced in San Pedro Sula, Honduras

2001

Acquisition of the Industrial Thread Division of DMC

US embroidery kit brand Dimensions sold

Thread production inaugurated in Oderhei, Romania

Thread factory inaugurated in Madagascar

Spinning and twisting mill acquired in Tlaxcala, Mexico to boost local production of high quality corespun yarns

Coats Viyella renamed as Coats plc

2001 - 2006

Closure of UK manufacturing sites in Lisnaskea, Cleater Moor, Newton Mearns, Hilden and Peterlee

2002

Thread dyeing and finishing mill set up in Qingdao, China

Second Bangladesh factory set up in Dhaka.

2003

Coats plc acquired by the Guinness Peat Group, and ordinary shares delisted from the LSE

Coats Brazil acquired Finobrasa, the industrial thread division of the Vicunha Group

Sales office opened in Moscow, Russia

Thread manufacturing commenced in Bangkok, Thailand

2004

New thread and zip manufacturing mill set up in Shenzhen, China

State of the art dyeing and finishing facility inaugurated in Orizaba, Mexico

Second mill in Pakistan established in Lahore

Coats acquired Westminster Fibres, a US distributor of premium handknitting yarns based in Nashua NH

Acquisition of Swedish crafts distributor, Almedahl.

2005

Zip manufacturing commences in India

2006

Thread manufacture commences in Israel

Acquisition of Danish crafts distributor, Holger Petersen

2007

Coats acquired Free Spirit Fabric Company in the USA to support the entry into the Creative Fabrics segment.

Coats acquired SR Kertzer, a Canadian marketer of premium knitting yarns
