The quality and reliability of an optical cable is
determined in part by the strength
and protection elements inside the cable. These components are important
both during installation of the cable to insure the cable can withstand
rated tensile installation loads, and long term service over the lifetime
of the cable to insure performance for years and years. Strength Members
play an important role in these functions.
At Coats we believe we offer three very important advantages: Twisting,
Coating, and Splicing.
1) "Do the Twist".
Often overlooked, Yarn Twisting is one of the most important elements of a
good yarn. There are many different ways to twist fibers in order to improve
the strength of the resultant yarn. Simply knowing how to produce a high
quality raw fiber is not nearly good enough to produce a high quality yarn or
thread. Coats is the largest maker of threads in the world, with the widest
experience in producing yarns and threads for many applications. Coats knows
how to "Do the Twist."
2) Coating
Like the name implies, Coats knows Coatings. Bringing experience in ultra
high speed sewing applications where threads must withstand high friction and
heat, Coats has a wide arsenal of various coatings expertise that we are
applying to products for Optical Cable. Coats' products have proven to
increase line speeds and reduce dust/shedding in cable processes.
3) Splicing
Again bringing a wealth of expertise from many industries,
Coats knows splicing of threads and yarns. We offer this service to our
customers in order to help reduce scrap (thereby saving money), and in
helping our environment by avoiding sending excess scrap to landfills.
